About Us: About Us

Peter Bailey

Chair

Retired chartered accountant and interim manager. Although a 'newbie' to Hastings (July 2020) my wife was born and went to school here. Prior to moving to Hastings I worked for six years in a charity supporting vulnerable and homeless families in East London. My interests include swimming, cycling, DIY, enjoying the lovely coast and countryside around here and being a member of a local church.  I think Hastings is a fantastic place in which to live!

I grew up in Bedford, and after University in London, I joined the Diplomatic Service  including a posting to Berlin which I loved so much I went back  and worked freelance both teaching some English at the Uni and  as a translator/Interpreter for the Courts and Notaries Public. Returning to the UK in 1972, I settled in Hastings  as my parents had moved here. I started teaching French and German and never looked back! Hobbies are sailing and gardening, sadly the  joints no longer  let us ski!

In 1977 my husband and I moved into St Helen’s Down (Upper  part) and love it here. That’s why I am keen to see the area preserved.

I have lived in Baird ward for 46 years. I retired from the Civil Service in 2007 and have been a volunteer since then working for animal charities and running a Good Neighbours group. I have a practical approach to helping local residents particularly the elderly who do not have access to the internet or family locally to help them. I am a keen bowls player and support Charlton Athletic through their few highs and many lows.

I was born in Hastings and have lived within a mile of the Ridge for most of my life! I enjoy all things community and like to try and help improve things where I can.

I moved to Hoads Wood Road with my husband and 3-year old son in February 2021. Having lived in Germany, Spain, Wales, and London and travelled to many countries around the world, we wanted to find a place we could call home and Hastings is it!

I joined the Pilot Field Residents' Association in September 2021 as I want to help people in this neighbour-hood and create a safe and engaging place for my son to grow up in.
